Spring is here, and with it comes the period of detoxifying bodies and traditionally popular fasting. After the winter, it’s a perfect opportunity to lose some extra weight and cleanse the body of accumulated toxins.
The historical roots of fasting
When people relied on the earth’s natural harvest cycles, springtime brought a lack of food stores. All stored food was gone, and they had to wait a month or so before the first greens appeared. That’s how the spring fasting has started.
Health Benefits of Fasting
Several studies have found that fasting may improve blood sugar control, help fight chronic inflammation, and positively affect heart health by improving blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Last but not least, the well-known benefit of fasting is weight loss caused by limiting calorie intake and boosting metabolism.
Types of Fasting
Intermittent fasting has become a health trend in the last few years. It means intentionally skipping meals or going without food for a day. Depending on your health and targets, you can choose from many varieties, such as the 16:8 or 12:12 intermittent fasting program.
5:2 Fasting Diet means that you eat as usual for five days per week. On the remaining days of the week, you limit the calories to 500-600 maximum.
Eat Stop Eat Fasting Diet is a stricter version of the previously introduced one. You are fasting two days out of seven, and you eat normal nutritious foods for the five remaining days.
4:3 Fasting Diet means that you fast every other day. You eat normally four non-consecutive days and fast for free days or vice versa.
One meal a Day = Omad is a kind of intermittent fasting in the ratio of 23:1. Generally, you fast for 23 hours and eat only 1 hour daily.
Spontaneous Meal Skipping – this one is the most flexible and individual type of fasting. Simply skip meals when you don’t feel hungry! Sometimes we keep in mind some prejudice about lunchtime or dinner time, but the truth is, are we always hungry when we go for breakfast, lunch or dinner?
If you decide to try fasting this year, it is wise to consult with your doctor before you begin to make sure you are healthy enough to do one. To help you detoxify your organism, include some spa treatments and body massages to rinse the toxins out of your muscles and body.
